Congressman Jim Bridenstine Derides Latest Gun Control Executive Orders
Most Americans do not want more gun control. President Obama apparently does not get the message. In late August, the Obama Administration announced two executive orders:
· End re-importation of “military” weapons sold or donated to our allies
· Expand background checks to corporations or trusts that buy and register guns
These executive orders represent part of the Obama Administration’s response to Congress for not passing gun control legislation in April. Rebuffed by Congress, the President has chosen to make yet another end-run around the people’s representatives.
Congressman Jim Bridenstine (OK-01) said:
“President Obama once again demonstrated his disdain for Congress after we rejected gun control back in April. The Obama Administration should focus on enforcing laws already on the books. That means prosecuting violent criminals who misuse firearms. Enacting gun control via executive orders that bypass Congress is the wrong approach and an affront to the Second Amendment.”
Congressman Bridenstine is a co-sponsor of HR 2277, legislation introduced by Rep. Doug Collins (GA-09). HR 2277 eliminates the so-called “sporting purposes” distinction that ATF bureaucrats have used to block firearms enthusiasts from re-importing antique, curio, or special interest firearms such as M-1 Garand rifles used in World War II and the Korean War.
