Today, Congressman Jim Bridenstine voted against HR 2028, legislation amended by the Senate into a Continuing Resolution (CR) to fund the government until April 28. Congressman Bridenstine said: “As I’ve stated before, Continuing Resolutions represent a failure to govern, a failure to represent the people, and a failure to exercise the power of the purse. In passing a CR, Congress abandons its representational duty and fails to fulfill the role given it by the Constitution.” Read more

I voted against the PROMESA Act, legislation to manage Puerto Rico’s $118 billion in debt and unfunded pension obligations. PROMESA (HR 5278) would establish a seven-member Oversight Board empowered to manage the island’s public finances, restructure its debt burden, and restore economic growth. Rather than intervene, Congress should allow the creditor-debtor negotiation and litigation processes to move forward. Reliance on voluntary negotiation and the courts better protects property rights and... Read more

U.S. Rep. Jim Bridenstine, R-Okla., was the featured speaker at the Arvest Bank Friday Forum at the Bartlesville east side branch on Friday, where he said his stance on not signing off on federal spending bills is not obstructionist, but an act to bring representation of the people back to Washington. “I want to be clear. I am not for a government shutdown, that’s what they want you to believe,” Bridenstine said. “I am for representing you in Washington, D.C., and when both parties collude to de... Read more

Today, Congressman Jim Bridenstine voted against a trillion dollar "Omnibus" spending bill. By filibustering annual appropriations bills, Harry Reid and Senate Democrats forced another crisis with a government shutdown looming. The Omnibus was negotiated behind closed doors by small number of Members of Congress and the White House. Members were given less than 60 hours to digest over 2,000 pages and had to take an up or down vote with no amendments permitted. Congressman Bridenstine said: "I ca... Read more

Today I voted against the “Bipartisan Budget Act.” This massive bill was negotiated in secret and brought to Members who were given 41 hours to consider it. No amendments were allowed and representation was denied to the American people. It increased spending, increased annual deficits, and raised the debt limit. I voted No. Read more

Congressman Jim Bridenstine and 150 other Republicans voted “No” on the Continuing Resolution (CR) today. Congressman Bridenstine said, “Continuing Resolutions are a failure to govern, a failure to represent the people, and a failure to exercise the power of the purse.” The House passed the bills to fund the government in the proper process. The Senate failed to take up any of them due to Democrat filibusters. Accordingly, a CR was presented as the only option for funding the federal government.... Read more

For decades, entrepreneurs in Oklahoma and Texas have looked to the immense natural resources found beneath our states’ soil, convinced that with a dream and a little hard work they could revolutionize an industry. These entrepreneurs have characterized the innovative spirit that has made the sister states places of promise for countless Americans. We are proud to represent Oklahoma and Texas, respectively, and together we believe we can unleash the American energy renaissance that is already un... Read more

I cast another vote for the American taxpayer and against fiscal irresponsibility today. The House of Representatives passed a package to permanently repeal and replace Medicare’s Sustainable Growth Rate (SGR). I voted against the package. While I support an SGR replacement, I cannot vote in favor of a bill that costs more than $200 billion, while Congress only pays for $70 billion, leaving more than $130 billion to our children and grandchildren. We cannot continue to solve every problem by add... Read more
