Bridenstine Asks Reid to Bring Obamacare De-funding to Floor of the Senate
This week, the US Senate is expected to consider the Continuing Appropriations Act of 2013. I wrote to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to ask that a critically important amendment proposed by Senator Ted Cruz of Texas be brought to the Senate Floor and given an up or down vote by all members of that body.
Senator Cruz’s amendment, supported by Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell and co-sponsored by Senators Cornyn, Inhofe, Lee, Paul, and Rubio would restrict any funds in this Continuing Resolution from being used to implement Obamacare until economic growth in America returns from its current anemic level back to the historical average.
Last week the House of Representatives was denied the opportunity to vote on an amendment to de-fund the implementation of Obamacare offered by myself and Congressman Tim Huelskamp of Kansas. The House Rules Committee did not permit our amendment to reach the Floor of the House.
The single greatest threat to America’s long term fiscal stability is the skyrocketing cost of healthcare services and entitlement programs. These programs have overpromised to such an extent that they can’t possibly hope to deliver. Obamacare only makes this problem worse. Six more months of new regulations on businesses and individuals will make the economic turnaround our country needs nearly impossible.
