The President sent his supplemental appropriations request to Congress today. It is for $4.3 billion, significantly more than the expected $1.9 billion. Of the $4.3 billion, $600 million is to fight wildfires, an unrelated issue. The President's request does nothing to address the root causes of the problem: lax border security and the administration's indirect encouragement of illegal immigration through executive orders. Congressman Bridenstine said, "The Secure Fence Act of 2006 requires 100%... Read more

Certain members of the media received this morning an invitation from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to a showcase "tour" of the HHS facility housing Unaccompanied Alien Children at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma. Congressman Jim Bridenstine is encouraging members of the media to reject the limitations proposed by HHS. "The idea of no recording devices, no questions, and no interactions is not acceptable. This violates the 1st Amendment. This is not transparent. HHS is trying to muzz... Read more

Sill, Oklahoma currently housing up to 1,200 unaccompanied alien children (UAC) who illegally crossed the southern border into the United States. I am disappointed that the President’s budget request slashes funding for interior enforcement. The Fiscal Year 2014 Department of Homeland Security (DHS) budget would cut funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and eliminate funding for the “287g” program. Using authorities under 287g, the federal government can train state and local law enforcement to enforce immigration law. 287g is especially important in a time of tight budgets. DHS and ICE will increasingly rely on state and ... Read more

Article I, Section 8 of the U.S. Constitution charges Congress with establishing "an uniform Rule of Naturalization." This is a constitutional duty I take very seriously. There is no controversy about the fact that our country has a broken immigration system and a broken border. The bills currently being developed by groups in the House and Senate have not been revealed, which makes it difficult to comment on specific legislation. Nevertheless, I believe it is important to provide my constituent... Read more

Congressman Bridenstine co-signed a letter to Department of Homeland Security (DHS) challenging Secretary Janet Napolitano to explain the reported decision to release so-called “low-risk” illegal immigrants from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facilities. Numerous reports indicate that ICE chose to release detained illegal immigrants rather than finding savings elsewhere in the DHS budget. As the letter states, this unilateral decision is “extraordinary, unprecedented, and dangero... Read more
