Congressman Jim Bridenstine is an original cosponsor of Representative Mike Kelly’s (R-PA) bipartisan Concurrent Resolution to oppose the dangerous U.N. Arms Trade Treaty, H. Con. Res. 23.  The U.N. Arms Trade Treaty has elicited warnings from numerous legal and foreign policy experts who agree that the treaty, as drafted, poses significant threats to the Second Amendment rights of U.S. citizens.

An identical companion resolution, S. Con. Res. 7, was introduced in the U.S. Senate by Senator Jerry Moran (R-KS).  A press conference was held Tuesday, March 12, in Washington, D.C. to announce the Concurrent Resolution which has 122 cosponsors in the House and 23 in the Senate.

Representative Kelly presented key points:

The ATT is a serious threat to American freedom and sovereignty and must be stopped in its tracks before it’s too late.
The ATT poses a risk to the Second Amendment rights of U.S. citizens — it fails to limit its scope in ways that threaten gun sales and ownership here at home.
The ATT threatens the ability of the U.S. to protect our allies around the world — it contains dubious language that could be misused by bad actors to stop America from arming our closest friends such as Israel and Taiwan.
The ATT poses additional threats to our domestic defense manufacturing base (and thus our economic interests) and gives significant leverage to the Obama administration to advance anti-gun policies.
The U.S. Constitution proclaims that only the American people through our elected representatives can decide our nation’s laws – not the United Nations. Our sacred rights and sovereignty should never be trivialized by a flawed treaty.
