Congressman Jim Bridenstine Cosponsors Amendment to Prohibit Use of Funds for Executive Amnesty
Washington, DC, December 9, 2014 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Congressman Jim Bridenstine is one of several cosponsors of a proposed amendment to the omnibus appropriations bill that will be considered this week. The amendment will prohibit the use of any funds or fees from being used to execute the President's unilateral, unconstitutional changes to U.S. immigration laws announced in November.
Specifically, the legislation prohibits use of any federal funds to implement, administer, carry out, or enforce the policies in both the directives from the Secretary of Homeland Security on November 20 and the executive orders signed by the President on November 21 or "any substantially similar memorandum issued after November 21, 2014."
Congressman Bridenstine said, ñI strongly support this effort to stop the PresidentÍs illegal and unconstitutional action to go around Congress. The United States Constitution, Article I Section 8, clearly states the role of the Legislative Branch to "establish a[n] uniform Rule of NaturalizationÍ and the courts have repeatedly affirmed that Congress has the authority to establish rules of immigration. The role of the Executive Branch, the President personally, is also clearly stated in Article II Section 3: he shall take Care that the Laws be faithfully executedÍ. The President needs to do his constitutional duty."
