Congressman Jim Bridenstine Votes for Fiscal Responsibility
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
I cast another vote for the American taxpayer and against fiscal irresponsibility today. The House of Representatives passed a package to permanently repeal and replace Medicare’s Sustainable Growth Rate (SGR). I voted against the package. While I support an SGR replacement, I cannot vote in favor of a bill that costs more than $200 billion, while Congress only pays for $70 billion, leaving more than $130 billion to our children and grandchildren. We cannot continue to solve every problem by adding to the deficit.
Last year, I voted in favor of a very similar bill, H.R. 4015, which passed the House of Representatives. Last year’s formula was nearly identical to this year’s legislation, but it was fully paid for by delaying Obamacare’s individual mandate.
