Congressman Jim Bridenstine is proud to announce that the Harmony Project Tulsa is the recipient of the Non-Profit in the Spotlight Award for January 2016. The following is a press release from the Harmony Project Tulsa:
Tulsa, OK - Congressman Jim Bridenstine will present Harmony Project Tulsa with the First Congressional District Non-Profit in the Spotlight Award at 1:00 pm, Friday, January 29, 2016 in the Kendall Whittier Elementary school gymnasium located at 2601 East 5th Place in Tulsa. Harmony Project Tulsa students will perform music at this event including everything from the National Anthem to The Orange Blossom Special.
The First Congressional District Non-Profit in the Spotlight Award was created in 2013 by Congressman Jim Bridenstine in an effort to highlight and raise awareness of local non-profits, their mission, and the people leading their efforts in the community. It is the hope of Congressman Bridenstine that by highlighting the tremendous work of these organizations, more First District constituents will be alerted to the assistance that is available to them and be better equipped to utilize these valuable services if necessary. Recipients of the award are selected based on constituent recommendations and stories of service that are communicated to the First District congressional office.
Currently in its 2nd year, Harmony Project Tulsa provides a daily after-school program that immerses students in music while developing them to be happy, healthy, productive social citizens. HPT students receive violin and cello string instruction provided by Tulsa Symphony musicians Michael Nicholson and Kathy Rad, and academic tutoring with Kendall Whittier teachers. Students recently performed with rave reviews from an enthusiastic crowd at the TU Reynolds Center for the men's basketball game.
